What People Are Saying

“Best fried chicken in utah” — Southern living magazine

“a beautiful thing” — Salt lake tribune

4.9 stars on facebook, 4.5 Stars on Yelp & Google

“Hmmm, do I give this place 5 stars, or do I give it 5 stars?!…

When everyone is head over heels in love with their breakfast, then of course it's 5 stars. Party of 6, two kids, 4 adults. The hoss, T-rose, biscuit Benedict, basic, and two kids breakfasts with pancakes, bacon, and an egg.
The biscuits here are pure magic, crispy and buttery outside, soft and tender inside, not bland, delicious flavor, some of the best in Utah. Honestly everyone loved their meals, but all of us agreed the shared biscuit pudding French toast was unbelievable. Worth every bite.
We also tried the mint lemonade, and honeydew cucumber lemonade, both yummy and refreshing, but that honeydew cucumber was something special. Come eat here, you won't regret it!
We can't wait to go back.

“Oh my god, no words can describe our experience…

The staff was extremely clean and offered us hand sanitizer. Our waiter was incredible friendly and walked us through the menu as well as his recommendations. We got the raspberry limeade and the mint limeade, both were absurdly delicious. For our meals we got the titanic fried chicken sandwich and the superfood salad with grilled chicken. Both of the dishes were so amazing that we didn't want to finish them. Also, the limeade salsa that came with the sandwich is by far the best salsa I have ever had in my life. The food was extremely hot, fresh and fast. Wish I lived in SLC so I could go all the time!”

“I love this place and I would come back here everyday…

My coworkers and I were in town on a business trip and one of the locals that we were working with had recommended this place to us. And boy were we satisfied with the food here… I ordered the Hoss and the orange raspberry lemonade. The Hoss came with biscuits, fried chicken, bacon and gravy. The portions are really big and everything was very filling. The biscuits were so crispy and flaky...yumm! It was around $13 which is a good price for the amount of food you get. And the lemonade was so good! It had small little fruit specks that you could taste and a great fruity taste…”

Our Story

How It All Began

Sweet Lake-Hoss and Teri.jpeg

Hi, my name is Hoss and my wife is Teri. We got our start at the farmers market in 2009. Wanting to start a seasonal food business that we could do at summer events, I came up with a fresh mint limeade and started selling at farmers markets and county fairs. It gained popularity over the years and eventually we decided to turn it into a brick and mortar store.

So I went back to my roots and developed a food menu of things that I love. Having grown up in Texas, what else would we do but things like homemade biscuits, fried chicken, and of course, the popular fresh mint limeades.

We opened in a small space near downtown Salt Lake City. After a few years of extremely hard work, we decided that we were indeed insane, and that we should do it again, this time across the valley, down the street from where my parents still live in Draper.

It’s hard work, but we love our business. We love using local and organic ingredients, making everything in house from scratch, providing top-notch comfort food to hungry diners. We love how excited people get when they see The Hoss (our signature sandwich of biscuit, chicken, bacon, egg, gravy, cheese) arrive in front of them. We love being able to create a unique dining experience with creative dishes that are made from real ingredients. And we love our staff. They work hard and are an integral part of the Sweet Lake family.

Love,
Hoss & Teri
